Today, I'm glad I live in the Pacific Time Zone. I was able to start watching the live broadcast at 5pm (8pm Eastern) like everyone else. I went out at seven, came back just past nine and didn't miss a thing because the show is now being broadcast in the Pacific Time Zone. Sweet!
So, how did I do with my predictions? (and I know I was a bit loose with exactly who would win but work with me here)

Wrong on the "Think Will Win" but right on the "Want" Sweet!!! WTG Brad. You totally deserve it. Great speech too. Very heartfelt.
Female Vocalist of the Year

Correct. And wasn't Dierks a wonderful presenter? Even if he couldn't say "CMA Female Vocalist of the Year" LOL I loved the bit about having a crush on Alison Kraus :)

Okay, that previous surprise was sarcastic. This one really WAS a surprise. A good one, even if I'm not a fan of Jennifer Nettles' voice. They do have good songs. Note that they were my second choice so I'm saying I got it right :D
Horizon Award
Taylor Swift
Wrong. Cool. I like Taylor. I didn't think she could pull it off though. Loved her comment "this is the best thing about my senior year" LOL
Musical Event
"Find Out Who Your Friends Are" -- Tracy Lawrence Featuring Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney
Wrong. Definitely didn't see that coming. Especially since it's Tracy's first CMA, Tim McGraw wasn't even there (I don't think), and the label fought having the collaboration version released. I'd say this song was an underdog from the get go. It's nice to see it triumph. It makes me sad that I didn't go see Tracy at Billy Bob's in April though. Oh well.
Song of the Year
"Give It Away" -- Bill Anderson, Buddy Cannon and Jamey Johnson
Wrong on the Think, right on the Want.
I still remember the first time I heard this song. I was fighting traffic on my way in to Vancouver for the writing course I took in June of 2006. I had grabbed Burger King for dinner and I tuned in to KMPS out of Seattle for "Tony Thomas' 5 o'clock Test Track". This was the song they played. I loved it from the opening bar and it made me smile for the rest of the evening. It's one strong song off a fantastic album and I'm glad it won.
Jamey Johnson's speech was hysterical too. Thanking his ex-wife was genius LOL
Single of the Year
"Before He Cheats" -- Carrie Underwood
Correct. Without looking it up, I'm pretty sure this song totally embodies what a "single" of year is supposed to be.
Album of the Year
It Just Comes Natural -- George Strait
Correct. I called it. As much as I wanted Dierks to win (and I admit, I was nervous because I think he had a chance) George really did put out an exceptional album.
Video of the Year
"Online" -- Brad Paisley
Second choice again. Close enough. This is his third win in this category. Well done. His wife (Kimberly Williams-Paisley) was a brilliant presenter too. Definitely the highlight of the evening.
So 7 out of 11. I didn't post about Musician of the Year but it's no surprise that Jerry Douglas took it again.
Final comments?
The last Eagles album was released before I was born!!! Loved their performance tonight though. Very well done.
Rascal Flatts? Painful. Especially with Jamie Foxx. Wrong on so many levels.
Reba and LeAnn? Very nice. Not sure about the first outfit LeAnn had on though. You're fit. We get it. :P
Ummm Brad, absolutely brilliant. The marching band, Kellie and Taylor were awesome.
Kenny, not too sure about the pants.
Taylor and Carrie both looked very uncomfortable on stage. Rodney was the exact opposite.
Interesting show though. It's over for another year and now we can update the titled "Three time winner and current reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year, KENNY CHESNEY" LOL

CMA Outcomes
So, how close was I?
Entertainer of the Year
Kenny Chesney
Correct. I thought he’d win and I wanted him to win. Note that he is now both the current reigning Entertainer of the Year according to both the CMA and the ACM!
Male Vocalist of the Year
Keith Urban
Correct. While the letter he had Ronnie Dunn read was touching, I still think any of the other nominees would have been just as good choices for this category.
Female Vocalist of the Year
Carrie Underwood
Wrong. It’s hard to say who was more surprised. Carrie or Faith Hill. I thought Faith deserved it and apparently she did too. Unfortunately she was on camera when Carrie’s name was announced and her “WHAT?” comment is the topic of much speculation this morning.
Horizon Award

Correct. Although it’s weird that she won this and Female Vocalist.
Single of the Year
“Believe”
Wrong. I thought Carrie would get this one. B&D cleaned up on the music side.

"Murder on Music Row"
July 31, 2005 (My birthday) Dierks Bentley and George Jones recorded a duet called "Murder on Music Row". It was a re-make of the one that George Strait and Alan Jackson did. George & Alan's original version won "CMA Song of the Year" in 2001.
Practically since the day Dierks & George re-recorded the song, I have been waiting for it's release. The original story was that it was coming out on a "Song of the Year" compilation that was going to be distributed by Starbucks. Over a year later, the story changed and an official announcement was made stating that the compilation would now be marketed by Cracker Barrel. Here's a link to the press release: clicky
The cd was released on October 3rd as promised. Unfortunately the closest Cracker Barrel to me is in Idaho. I want a copy of the cd but I am not willing to pay $17USD for shipping (and that's the cheaper option!). Instead I've been biding my time figuring I'll get it at some point. (Maybe someone will take pity on me and mail it out ;)).
Today I was on dierks.com and noticed that as a special feature for the fan club members they are playing acoustic versions of some of the tracks from his Long Trip Alone CD (the new one). I listened to each of the three tracks and then expected it to start them again. Instead, I got to hear "Murder on Music Row"!!! Dierks & George's version is just as great as I had hoped it would be.
I still want that CD but at least I don't have to wait to hear the song!

The Concert: Miranda Lambert
Seth and I got back to the concert floor while Miranda was still onstage. In fact she had just launched into her current single "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" She debuted the song at the CMA's where she was a Horizon Award Nominee (it should be noted that Dierks won the Horizon Award in 2005 and now he's headlining his own show!)
"Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" is a fun song live. It gave Miranda a chance to show off her "rock star" tendancies. She's very much into head banging and swinging her product laden long blonde hair all over.
One of her band members has a five inch mohawk and somehow he fits right in even though it is a country band.
Note Miranda's belt buckle (right) it says "Blake Shelton" Blake is a fellow country singer and Miranda's boyfriend. I got a kick out of that.
I'm not sure which of Miranda's songs we missed because she sang all the ones I wanted to hear. "Kerosene", "New Strings", Bring Me Down" and a great cover of Steve Earle's "Hillbilly Highway".
You can tell she's a newer artist but with some solid touring under her belt, I think she's got great potential.

ACM Predictions
I had so much fun doing my predictions for the CMA's that I'm going to do it again.
Over all prediction, Carrie Underwood will clean up.

Who I THINK Will Win: Honestly, any of them could take it. Keith didn't tour much last year so I'm not hopeful for him. Rascal Flatts, Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw and George Strait all did and had VERY successful tours. Any of them could take it.

ALW: SSWA2.5
It's now Friday afternoon and I haven't finished updating my blog from LAST weekend. Let's see if I can finish up my last two entries before I have to leave.
August Long Weekend: ScrapShare Washington Crop 2.5
A bunch of my internet friends have an annual crop in Washington State in January. This year we had a member from the board fly out from Michigan so we decided to have a bi-annual get together, hence the "2.5".
I drove down with Terri, someone who I met online and face to face in Calgary at Showcase, who actually lives about 20 minutes from me, in the town where I used to work. Getting across the border took longer then it needed too because it was busy. Oh, and we accidently tripped their radiation sensor because we sat between the laser for too long so we had to go inside and explain ourselves to the guards. Once we did they let us go without a problem (not even a $6 fee!!!)
The Crop was a lot of fun. I got to sit beside Diane, our special guest from Michigan and my "twin" :) I am working on a 7x7 album of all the concerts I've attended so I organized the pictures and paper for that and cut out twenty titles! I used every letter of the alphabet but Q and Z! I'm acutually halfway done assembling the album as of today too.
We also celebrated my birthday. Everyone got awesome paper crowns and Di and Darrcie made me a really nice, very yummy cake. I don't actually have pictures of the event so I can't lament not being able to post them. If anyone who reads this DOES have pictures though, I'd love to have copies!!!
Saturday was good, the scrapbooking ended way too soon. Oh, and we got to take a trip to the LSS (local scrapbook store). Veronica, you'll be proud of me. I bought my first Basic Grey!!! I'm going to use it for the Brad Paisley concert from January.
Saturday night after we left the church where the crop took place we tried to find some fast food. Easier said then done. McDonalds closed at 10:30pm. On a SATURDAY! Wendy's only had the drive thru open. Very weird. We got back to Darrcie's and chatted until I couldn't keep my eyes open. Then we split up. A bunch of us stayed in Darrcies *very* nice trailer. Diane and I talked until we fell asleep in the middle of our sentences. It was fun :)
Sunday we got up, had breakfast, visited for awhile and then Terri and I hit the road again. On the way back we stopped at Michaels but didn't buy anything. Then we went to another LSS and each bought some BC stickers. Get this. They were regularly twenty nine cents but they were on sale for 75% off! Nine cents each!!! We did get a "project of the month" too so we did actually spend money :P
When I got home I watched the ABC Special CMA Fest that someone sent me on DVD. Then I went and laid down because I was pretty wiped from two late nights. That was at 6:30. I woke up at 10 and changed into my pj's and slept until 9 the next morning!

New CD's
Last night I stopped at Walmart to pick up some pictures. While I was there I checked out the music department. They had re-issued copies of George Strait's "If You Ain't Lovin'...You Ain't Livin'" and Toby Keith's "Boomtown" (which has the single "Big Trucks" that I have been wanting to get". Each CD was $5.99. GREAT price!
Today Mom and I took a drive down to Walmart in the states. We made the border guard laugh. She was like "You just passed a Walmart" and we said "yeah, the American one has different stuff and even with exchange it's often cheaper" Which it is...if you are careful.
Mom bought some cotton batting material. $3.99/yard. In Canada it's over $8.00! I hit the music department again. Kenny's "Be As You Are" for $9.72, George's "Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind" for $5.88 (and it should be noted that that was awarde Album of the Year from the CMA's in 1984) and Tim McGraw's brand new "Greatest Hits II - Reflected" for $9.72. I wasn't going to buy the Tim CD but I couldn't pass up that price.
As a comparison, $9.72 USD at today's exchange rate is $11.54. I have yet to see Kenny's BAYA CD for less then $17 in Canada. That's a savings of over $5. Well worth the drive.
You do have to be careful though. There were other CD's that were just as much or MORE down there. Definitely a buyer beware situation.
I'm happy with what I got though :) Oh, and coming back the guard didn't even ask to see my reciept so no duty. It was great!

A Marriage Made in Heaven
Dierks and Starbucks. What more can a girl ask for? What am I talking about you ask? The cover duet that Dierks Bentley and George Jones did this summer of Alan Jackson and George Strait's "Murder on Music Row". I had heard that they had recorded it but yesterday I found out that it will be released through Starbucks! There are two independent sites that confirm this:

Dierks *IS* married!!!
There have been rumours flying hard and fast over the past week that Dierks Bentley and his long time girlfriend Cassidy got married in Mexico on December 15th. I refused to believe it until I saw some official news. They kept it quiet for a week but now it's on CMT. That's it. The world has ended. There is no chance for me anymore :p J/K. What is with these celebrities eloping though? I can't stand it!!! There have been three major weddings in the past two weeks. Garth & Trisha, Blaine (Larsen) & Sammi and now Dierks & Cassidy. My turn has GOT to be coming LOL.

Dierks Bentley Elopes to Mexico
Singer Weds His High School Sweetheart

Dierks Bentley's roomie, Jake the dog, is going to have to move over. The highly eligible bachelor eloped to Mexico over last weekend (Dec. 17 and 18), sources in Nashville confirmed. He and his longtime girlfriend, Cassidy, spent the weekend at an undisclosed location in Mexico where they were wed. Natives of Phoenix, Ariz., Cassidy and Dierks were high school sweethearts.
After the wedding, the couple returned to Nashville where they had dinner with Make-a-Wish Foundation staffers. Dierks confessed to close friends that his mom was a bit sad that she didn't get to see him get married, but he said she is OK now. A couple of years ago, Dierks traveled alone to Mexico and found a spot he loved. He made the decision then that if he ever got married, that would be the place. Dierks and his family and Cassidy and her family will travel to Colorado where they will spend the holidays together.
He will travel to the United Kingdom in January for three shows which are a part of the Country Music Association's New From Nashville concert series. The concerts take place Jan. 16 in Dublin, Jan. 17 in Glasgow and Jan. 19 in London. The Glasgow date is part of Celtic Connections 2006, a music festival taking place Jan. 11-29. Bentley was presented the Horizon Award at the recent CMA Awards show in New York.
