Butter

I am a margarine girl. My family has used Becel, due to it's "heart friendly" properties, for years. I've never been able to relate to the "I can't believe it's not butter" ads because frankly, I don't get what is so special about butter.

There is one instance in which the above does not apply. I think I've mentioned the little cafe around the corner from my office before. Probably the only thing I'm going to miss about working in this town (aside from the ultra cool used bookstore). Right now I am sitting here enjoying a wonderful "salad nicoise" Mixed greens, tomato, olive, cucumber, green beans, tuna and what I believe may be my very first anchovies. Very, very salty and fishy but not a horrible taste.

Back to the butter. What I love about this restaurant is that aside from the linen table cloth and napkins, funky artwork and resonable prices, everytime you come they give you a basket of warm baguette pieces and a plate of butter pats, not matter what you order. I *know* the pats are butter because it's stamped right on them! :D I love the combination of cold butter and warm bread. I usually put it butter side down on my tounge so as to get the full effect. Delightful! For that moment I forget all about my life long loyalty to margarine and become a butter girl.

The jury however, is still out on the anchovies.

Note: This was hand written last night in the restaurant (the joys of dining alone) and typed up today. I would have taken a picture of the butter and bread but by the time I thought about it, it had been reduced to a couple of crumbs and some telltale smears on the plate.

Mmmm yum - butter on warm bread :)

I work in a margarine factory - and mostly eat margarine - but I do prefer butter ;) Actually I prefer Swiss butter - but I can't get that here :)

I grew up on butter. But Jeffrey's family used margarine so I switched. Now there are only two things I use butter for - browned butter for shrimp (because margarine doesn't brown as nicely) and honey butter at Lone Stars on their warm yeast rolls. Yum!
